Netball in Birmingham currently looks like this:

PREMIER LEAGUE

Elmdon 1st team have obtained a place in Division 3 of the new Premier League, whilst Linden remain in Division 1.

BAI GAIN CAPS SILVER

BAI Netball Club are the first Bimingham based netball club to achieve CAPS Silver accreditation. Well done to them. There are now 300 netball CAPS Clubs nationally and 52 in the West Midlands, 10 of which are in Birmingham.

FALCONS NETBALL CLUB AT RACE FOR LIFE EVENT

Falcons Netball Club recently participated in the Cancer Research Race for life event with a stall to promote netball and the importance of exercise and a healthy lifestyle. Club members who manned the stall demonstrated the game, handed out information about netball in the region, helped members of the public shoot and offered free fruit. The girls thoroughly enjoyed themselves despite the heat and early start. Well done everyone at Falcons.

LYN CAIN TOURNAMENT

Bournville and Rover run the Lyn Cain Trophy every year in memory of Lyn Cain and this will be the 15th year it has taken place. 24 teams take part form within and outside the region. The tournament will raise funds for Teenage Cancer Trust who have three projects in this area. The purpose of this communication is to invite people along on the day (not to play in teams as they are full) to see some top class netball, to get involved with fundraising and to raise awareness of Teenager Cancer Trust.

WEST MIDLANDS NETBALL OFFICE NEW OPENING TIMES

Due to the upheavel that the construction of a new building on the University campus is causing and the limited car parking space, the West Midlands office opening times are now 08.30am – 4.30pm .

SAFEGUARDING AND PROTECTING YOUNG PEOPLE COURSE

If there are any clubs , particularly those with CAPS, who wish to send coaches/safeguarding officers on a Safeguarding and Protecting nYoung People Course, there is one on 15th July at Hollyfields Community & Sports Centre, Woodacre Road, Erdington, Birmingham B24 0JT - 10.00am to 1.00pm. CRB CHECKS

You may have heard that the government has announced a review of the Vetting and Barring Scheme. Please note that enhanced checks are considered good practice by England Netball for our volunteer workforce. However, new forms will be used from 1st July and an online system will be available from 26th July. Clearly a network will need to be available for me to evidence check and send forms electronically. I will therefore be able to use the online system from Manor House only until we have worked out how this can be done from other locations.

WORLD NETBALL SERIES, LIVERPOOL, 19-21 NOVEMBER

The top six netballing countries will be competing under the Fast Net rules in the World Netball Series from Friday 19th November until Sunday 21st November in Liverpool. Tickets for the event are now on sale with 10% discount available for early-bird bookings and 15% discount for England Netball members. ACRYLIC NAILS AND SUNGLASSES

Please note that Rule 1.4.5 clearly states that Fingernails, shall be short and smooth. Please be aware that should a player be wearing Acrylic nails whichdo not conform to the above, then they should not participate according to the rule. If the players Acrylic nailsdo conform to the rule, and they subsequently suffer damage to their nail(s) then, they participate at their own risk and they would not covered by any England Netball Insurance.

Sunglasses should not normally be worn when participating in Netball activities. However, sunglasses may be worn forgenuine medical reasons when participating in recognised and authorised EN netball activities. If sunglasses are required for genuine medical reasons, then an appropriate medical certificate must be supplied to England Netball (or the appropriate league, county or region)

If a player / coach / official has to wear glasses for medical reasons then she / he is fully insured from an EN point of view. But , if the glasses become damaged due to a netball accident then these are not insured.

This guidance applies to Netball Activitieswithin England Netball only.

COACHING COURSES IN BIRMINGHAM

There is a 1st4sport/UKCC England Netball Level One Assistant Coach Award on 16th, 17th October and 7th November.

ARMED FORCES PRE-SEASON SENIOR NETBALL TOURNAMENT

A netball tournament is being held by Armed Forces Netball to raise money for Help the Heroes and Forces Netball on Sunday 5th September in Northampton from 10am - 4pm, with an entry fee of £35. DAILY TELEGRAPH - WOMEN'S WEEK

The Daily Telegraph is running Women’s Week to celebrate the launch of Catherine Zeta-Jones’ new film ‘The Rebound’. The in-paper feature will run from 19 July 2010, the date of the film’s premier. England Netball and the Back to Netball initiative will feature as part of Women’s Week. Real life stories from current 'Back to Netball' participants will appear in the paper with a voucher encouraging the reader plus a friend to attend their local ‘Back to Netball’ session for free. Two Birmingham Back to Netball sessions will appear in the Daily Telegraph of 100 Back to Netball sessions nationally, and 8 in the West Midlands - Turves Green Boys School in Northfield session organised by Julie Cowan and Hamstead Hall School session organised by Amorelle Campbell.

BNL 2010/11 Season

All

All Divisions for the 2010/11 Season are attached for your information Central Venue will take place to end of December as follows:

DIVISIONS 4,5,6,7,8 WILL PLAY AT SHENLEY COURT

THERE WILL BE 3 NEW TIME SLOTS 10.30AM - 12.00NOON - 13.30PM

DIVISIONS 9,10,11,12,13 WILL PLAY AT STOCKLAND GREEN

THERE WILL BE 4 NEW TIMES SLOTS 9.30AM - 11.00AM - 12.30PM AND 14.00PM (with 2 games only at 2pm)

DIVISION 1 TO 3 WILL REMAIN OUTSIDE OF CENTRAL VENUE.

All CV games will be allocated across the time slots and courts and so there is no need to let us know your time preferences.

The changes are due to court availability and the need to balance the number of games each Saturday.We will keep you informed of CV sites for games after January as soon as we have secured venues.

Fixtures will be available mid August

Falcons are in Division 11&12.
The first matches are on 11th September 2010 and are fortnightly thereafter.

Birmingham Netball

Team Trials

Ladies.

We have a friendly with Sparks on Wednesday 4th August 2010, 7pm, at
Yardleys School, Redding Lane, Tyseley, B11 3EY.

The friendly will be used as trials to help determine players for Falcons A & B next season.

The session will be approx 20min quarters, where existing Falcons A & B teams will play one qtr each.

Norma will pick two teams to play in the remaining two quarters.

If you are unable to attend the trials, please let Diane or Janine know so they can pass this onto Norma who can consider you based on your efforts in training or matches watched.

We have another friendly the following Wed (11th) against Sparks, where the two teams can play together again.

The committee will use Norma's input to decide the final two teams by the end of summer training.

We have a committee meeting on 2nd September to finalise paperwork for the BNL in readiness for matches on Saturday 11th September.

Suffera’s Promotion - Funday

Good Day All

As promised here are the details for Sunday 1st August 2010 “Suffera’s Promotion - Funday at Laurel Road Part 3”.

Registration is at 10.30 am, Games will start promptly at 11.00 am. Estimated time of finishing is round about 3.00 pm. Teams arriving late will be refused entry to the competition.

Fixtures, format of competition & rules will be handed out when you register. Each team is to provide a qualified AENA umpire.

On the day there will be football, basketball, rock climbing, face painting, bouncing castle & raffle tickets on sale. The air will be filled with the sweet smell of Caribbean yummy food (which you must try) and yes the sound of reggae music.

So bring your carnival mind with you and get wrapped up in SUFFERA’S PROMOTION Part 3 Funday.

Sutton Town Netball Tournament

Falcons participated in a netball tournament organised by Sutton Town Netball Club.

The Tournament had 2 rounds, the first - random teams put into groups to determine Gold and Silver Groups for the second round.

For the first time ever, Falcons won something. We were Silver Group Runners-up!!!

Congratulations to all that took part, especially Nisha and Holly from Bran-nu who made up our numbers. Falcons on the day were: Diane, Jenny, Sue F, Becca, Emma C, Kelly G and Janine.

Falcons A have been promoted to Division 10 for 11/12 season, after coming a very close second to Wyndley C.

Christmas Tournament

Falcons took part in the Tamworth League Christmas tournament on 8th December at Rawlett school along with 7 other clubs. Having played four matches- won two, drew one and lost one, Falcans came FOURTH against very good competition. Congratulations ladies!!

2012 Birmingham Summer Netball League

The summer league starts week commencing 16th April, and will run for approximately 17weeks.

Both teams are in Division 7 having both teams promoted.

TRAINING VENUE

Due to the recent sports facilities closures by Birmingham City Council, we will be training at King Edward's SHeldon Heath Academy (KESH Academy) from Monday 9th January 2012, 7-9pm. We are hoping this is a temporary measure as it is a gym ans not a sports hall with a full sized gym..

Please note, KESH Academy is closed on Monday 13th February, si training will be held at CTC Academy, Kingshurst on Cooks Lane, B37 6NZ. Same time.

We hope to secure facilities at the new International School on Gressel Lane for March until the summer league starts in Mid April.

With some games to play, Falcons B fate will be revealed after Sat 14th April, fingers crossed for a win and third place!
